58.4 billion euros in fresh money for special funds

In the first quarter of 2021, institutional investors invested a gross amount of 58.4 billion euros in special funds. At the same time, a total of 34.5 billion euros flowed out of these vehicles. The bottom line was that they achieved a net inflow of funds of 23.9 billion euros. This is the result of the consulting firm Kommalpha after analyzing the Bundesbank data with a reference date of March 31, 2021.

The first quarter of 2021 is thus significantly below the level of the same quarter of the previous year, in which a net 33 billion euros flowed into the special funds. A year later it is 28 percent less. A comparison with the fourth quarter of 2020 shows an even more pronounced decrease of 45 percent. In terms of pure inflows, the first three months of 2021 are below the monthly average of 25 billion euros. The graphic shows the comparison over twelve months.

Pension schemes and credit institutions in particular invested more money between January and March 2021 and withdrew less than in the same quarter of the previous year. In the case of insurers, however, the net inflow of funds plummeted sharply in the first quarter of 2021. Your net new business at the end of March 2021 is 8.7 billion euros below the corresponding value at the end of the first quarter of 2020.

With regard to the net inflow of funds, mixed securities and pension special funds are well below the comparative value from 2020. The former collected around 7 billion euros less than in the first quarter of 2020. In the case of special pension funds, this difference is 7.5 billion euros.
