569 athletes reach the finish line at the 14th Business Run in Simmerath.

“Run, have fun, do good!” This has been the motto of the Eifel Business Run since 2008, which was only put on hold for three years by the pandemic from 2020 to 2022. After initially rotating the Business Run and also taking place in Schmidt, Roetgen and Monschau, in 2013 it was decided that Simmerath was the best venue. Urs Kaulard from the organizing team points to “the beautiful and optimal route, the many plus points in the infrastructure and the good options at the start and finish as well as at the subsequent after-run party.” In fact, you can find everything you need to host such an event at and in the secondary school in Simmerath. Every year, the beautiful route through the Kranzbruchvenn is enthusiastically praised by the participants, who by no means only come from the Eifel.

For companies and authorities

As the name suggests, the Business Run is a running event for companies, authorities and organizations. “The Business Run is a great opportunity for team building and networking and offers the ideal antithesis in a world that is increasingly revolving around work and career. It’s not just about the sporting challenge, but about work-life balance, about community and the good feeling of doing something meaningful for yourself and for others,” has been the message ever since Mathias Kaulard came up with the idea for the Business Run 16 years ago.

After Corona, we brought in real expertise and man and woman power with the running department of Hansa Simmerath.

Urs Kaulard

Co-organizer of the Business Run

For many years, Kaulard acted as the main organizer himself with his family, his company and other supporters and later passed this task on to his sons Urs and Beat. “We are still involved in the very extensive and complex organization, but after Corona we brought in real expertise and manpower with the running department of Hansa Simmerath,” said Kaulard, paying a big compliment to the huge team of helpers in the Hansa community. The business run will forever be “our baby, but in the medium term the plan is that we will increasingly withdraw from the organization and at some point leave this wonderful event entirely to the professionals at Hansa,” said Urs Kaulard, looking ahead.

However, in the future, the idea of welfare will always be at the top of the business run, emphasised Kaulard. In the past, various social causes were supported with the surplus income, above all the Monschauer Tafel, but also other charitable institutions.

With 555 runners and 170 walkers registered in advance, a five-figure sum should remain for the good cause after deducting costs. “We will probably be able to say exactly at the beginning of October,” announced Urs Kaulard.

Physiotherapists and pharmacists

From a sporting perspective, there are of course some very ambitious athletes taking part, who use the business run as training and to check their form before the autumn races. The focus of the award ceremony and the presentation of the trophy is not so much on the individual starters, but on the teams. In the women’s race, the Simmerath “PhysioOs” were just ahead of the girls from the Sparkasse, the Eifelklinik St. Brigida, the Simmerath municipal administration and the speedy Junker ladies. In the men’s race, the runners from Schwartz GmbH from Rollesbroich, the Pauls brothers from Konzen and the new Barstars fitness and ninja hall in Simmerath made it onto the podium. Finally, in the walking race, the women from the Simmerath Rathaus-Apotheke took the lead, while in the men’s race, the wood experts from Scherf were the first to cross the finish line.
