What does the almighty, inexorable Time tell us? A moment between what was already and what will be. 55 years have passed since the moment when “Mežrozīte” shone brightly in the sky at the Latvian radio program “Mikrofons”. On November 30 at the VEF Palace of Culture and on December 2 at the Latgale Embassy, GORS held commemorative concerts dedicated to this anniversary with a wide program – the most popular songs of 22 composers were performed by 21 singers, causing a huge response, singing along and standing ovation in the crowded audience halls.
The associate professor of the University of Helsinki, the well-known Finnish ethnomusicologist Pekka Gronovs described the Mikrofon polls in the following words: “This song contest was a unique phenomenon that has no precedent in the history of European pop music.”
The music of that time was waiting for freedom. Latvianness, musical values of our nation, outstanding creators and performers are also honored in these memory concerts. At one time, Imants Ziedonis wrote in a letter to “Mikrofon”: “I wish “Mikrofon” to remember the proverb – “What is called in the forest, it is heard”. The concert hall is a beautiful forest. I wish to call it beautiful!” And we call! Along with the younger generation singers Ieva Sutugova, Anmary, Andris Ābelīts, Dainis Skutelis, Mārtiņš Kanter, Jānis Strazdins, Matīs Pavītolas and the trio “Oranžas”, Žoržs Siksna, Adrian Kukuvass, Olga Rajecka, Uģis Roze, Nauris Puntulis, Guntis Veits, Valdis met again Skujiņš, Armands Alksnis, Ira Krauja, Juris Pavītols, Imants Vanzovičs, Ivars Rutmanis, Harijs Užāns, the musical association “Vintāža” with the artistic director Rihardas Bērziņš, director Valdis Pavlovskis and producer Jānis Kļaviņš. The concert was led by the legendary Mikronians – Gunārs Jākobsons, the author of the idea of the song survey, and Lia Guļevska, who ended the concert with the significant words of the German writer Remark – “In dark times, you can see bright people very well. This house is shining brightly tonight! I wish from the bottom of my heart that even on a daily basis we would not only be able to preserve this light, but also give it to others.”
In December, the anniversary concerts “Mikrofona uptaujai 55” will shine again on December 14 in the Valmiera cultural center and on December 30 in the Priekule sports hall. The concerts are supported by the stores “Klerr” and “Mans Drēbju Skapis”. Informs “House Guest”.
