55 Street Dealers of (Fake) Drugs Arrested in Red Light District Operation

The police arrested 55 dealers of (fake) drugs in the Red Light District last weekend. This happened during an action against street dealers.

The action was carried out by plainclothes and uniformed officers. The police regularly hold these kinds of actions, which mainly take place in the evenings and nights. According to the police, a ‘quite’ part of the street dealers had counterfeit drugs with them.

“The street trade in fake and real drugs causes a lot of crime and nuisance in the city center,” the police write. “Especially in the Red Light District. Street dealers hang around on the street, harass visitors and often behave aggressively.”

In addition to the (fake) drugs, the money was also taken from the street dealers. 39 area bans have been issued. Because the Public Prosecution Service was present at the police station during the action, the suspects were immediately told when they had to go to court or what amount of money they had to pay.

Cooperation

Because some of the street dealers do not have a residence permit, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) was also present. “This cooperation is very important because the parties can then act effectively with criminal law, administrative measures, supervision, prevention and other measures,” the police said.
