The Mayor of Paredes de Coura classified the new restrictions announced for 121 municipalities because of the pandemic as “moderate and acceptable” and called for “behavior change” to avoid “more drastic and dramatic” measures.
“At this point, they are moderate and acceptable measures, but if we do not change our behaviors, more drastic and dramatic measures can be taken,” said socialist Vítor Paulo Pereira to Lusa.
One hundred and twenty-one municipalities will be covered, as of Wednesday, by the civic duty of home collection, new hours in the establishments and mandatory teleworking, except for “reasoned opposition” by the worker, due to the covid-19, today announced the first -minister, António Costa.
“If we don’t change our behaviors, you can be sure that we will have Easter for Christmas. Remember? ”Asked Vítor Paulo Pereira.
The mayor of Paredes de Coura said that “in the last 15 days the municipality has seen a considerable increase in cases of covid-19, a situation that contrasts with that of previous months”.
“We have always said that Paredes de Coura lived in a situation of apparent or false security and that people should remain vigilant because there are no magical solutions to control this pandemic. And a little carelessness is enough to reach high levels of contagion ”, he said.
Of the ten municipalities in the district of Viana do Castelo, six are part of the national list of 121 municipalities considered to be at high risk.
In addition to Paredes de Coura, the measure covers the municipalities of Viana do Castelo, Valença, Ponte de Lima, Vila Nova de Cerveira and Caminha.
“Previous generations have gone through wars and catastrophes and are able to resist. We are asked to wear a mask, wash our hands and avoid gatherings and we complain. We have to be disciplined, organized and have a great sense of community that starts with each one of us ”, appealed Vítor Paulo Pereira.
According to the Prime Minister, António Costa, who was speaking after an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers in Lisbon, restaurants in these 121 counties on the continent – a list that will be reviewed every 15 days – cannot have tables with more than six people and your closing time starts at 22:30.
Commercial establishments will generally have to close at 10:00 pm.
Also in these territories – which represent 70% of the resident population – fairs and uprising markets are prohibited, and events and celebrations are limited to five people, except in cases where the participants belong to the same household.
“If we have nothing to do, we must stay at home. Of course, we can go out to work, to go to school, to do the shopping, to do some physical exercise in the vicinity, to walk with pets, to assist someone who needs it, but the rule must not forget: we must stay at home ”, Said António Costa.
In 121 municipalities, it is also “mandatory to delay working hours, as already legislated and in force”.
“Teleworking becomes mandatory, unless there is a reasoned opposition from the worker and under the terms of teleworking regulations, which we already have in mind at the social consultation and which will shortly come into force,” added the Prime Minister.
To define the list of 121 municipalities, municipalities with more than 240 cases of infection with the covid-19 virus per 100 thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days were included.
