55 inches, 4K and 120 Hz, the ideal combo for PS5 and Xbox Series X

After Acer, Alienware or Asus, it is Philips’ turn to announce the arrival in its ranges of a 55-inch screen. Optimized for the next generation of consoles, this device uses a television diagonal (55 inches), as well as 4K definition and 120 Hz scanning … but without a TV tuner.

Philips now also puts on a (very large) monitor, but thought for the Next Gen // Source: Philips

The next generation of consoles is looming on the horizon and with it the host of accessories, peripherals and televisions and screens that third-party manufacturers are preparing for les Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Among these devices, the 558M1RY: a 55-inch Ultra HD and 120 Hz monitor specially optimized for the next generation of home consoles, which should (in theory) exploit the high refresh rates of our screens. Philips is also pleased to have given birth to ” largest monitor optimized for console gaming ” Because it is indeed a simple monitor. Understand that no TV tuner is integrated alongside the panel.

A limitation that will not prevent anyone from connecting a TV box to one of the 3 HDMI ports of this new screen, which also has a DisplayPort input.

A high-flying VA monitor

On the side of the slab, Philips has chosen a VA panel (vertical alignment) capable of a maximum luminance of 1200 cd / m2. Enough to allow it to display a DisplayHDR 1000 certification. The response time is announced at 2.5 ms (1.5 ms only if you go through the DisplayPort input), while the contrast is estimated at 4000: 1.

Another specificity, this new monitor should allow correct audio quality thanks to a 40 W sound bar (signed Bowers & Wilkins), integrated just above the foot. The 558M1RY is finally equipped with Ambiglow technology, dear to Philips. As a reminder, it diffuses ambient light at the back of the screen corresponding to the colors of the content displayed.

The Philips 558M1RY should arrive on the market in the coming days, at a price of 1299 euros. We have contacted Philips for confirmation of this information for France. In addition to this 55-inch monitor, the Dutch manufacturer also announced the launch at the end of June, at 449 euros, of another 4K screen, 27 inches this time. The latter is however limited to a 60 Hz refresh, but put on a input lag minimized.
