55 electric bicycles are coming to the Municipality of Ioannita

A modern and integrated system of electric bicycles will be acquired by the Municipality of Ioannina in the coming months.

At the same time, the first sub-project of the major intervention in the Pyrsinella Park concerning smart applications was contracted.

These projects were mentioned during a press conference by the Mayor of Ioannina, Dimitris Papageorgiou.

Mr. Papageorgiou reminded that the Municipality was awarded the first prize for its participation in the European Mobility Week in the year 2022.

“In recent years, the Municipality has given special importance to this sector. And the current municipal authority continues to do so until the end of its term.

As he continues to implement the project program he had launched,” he noted.

As part of the project to strengthen micro-mobility in the Municipality of Ioannita, the contract was signed for the supply, installation and operation of an integrated electric bicycle rental system.

The project is co-financed by YMEPERAA with the amount of 350 thousand euros.

Through the contract, the Municipality will procure a total of 55 specially designed electric bicycles for shared systems equipped with intelligent systems. Two of these bikes will be specially designed for use by people with disabilities.

Within one month, the contractor must prepare an application study from which the exact stations will be determined, i.e. the areas where the bicycles will be installed.

“In this way, the Municipality wants to contribute so that we can gradually change our travel habits, especially in the city center and by the lakeside, and to include both cycling and walking in our daily lives”, stressed the Mayor.

In the framework of the project of regeneration and promotion of Pyrsinella Park, the first contract was signed.

This is the “smart applications” sub-project with a budget of approximately 700 thousand.

The Municipality of Ioannita will procure and install the following:

-Five smart rest stations (Smart Benches)

-Two smart information stations (Infokiosks)

-A smart transition

-An augmented reality application to highlight educational gardens

-An intelligent irrigation management and control system

-A civil protection information system for fire detection in Pyrsinella Park

-WiFi Access Points

“This is a critical and important parameter of the great regeneration project that will give the city a real lung.

With the smart solutions, it becomes more friendly to the citizen and the visitor, while at the same time it is shielded from the occurrence of fire” said Mr. Papageorgiou.

The implementation of the project:

• It will achieve the revitalization and modernization of both the immediate and wider intervention area

• It will improve the services provided to the residents of the Municipality and visitors to the area

• It will highlight the natural beauty of the area

• It will contribute to the information and awareness of citizens regarding the protection of the natural environment.

-The Mayor during the press conference was asked about the changes in the operation of legal entities that come with the passing of the new law of the Ministry of Interior.

As he said, the decisions that will be made for possible exceptions should be in relation to the choices of the new municipal authority.

Next Monday there will be a meeting with the newly elected mayor Thomas Bega in order to discuss the matter as the decisions must be made by the current municipal council by November 15.
