55 arrests for illegal employment since January 1 – 277 people repatriated

Twenty-five cases of illegal employment of third-country nationals were identified and investigated by the Police in the first twelve days of the new year. In the same period, more than 270 foreigners, who resided illegally in Cyprus, were repatriated.

As part of their official activities, in all provinces, members of the Aliens and Immigration Service, from January 1, until January 12, 2024, identified a total of 25 cases of illegal employment. For these cases, 55 persons were arrested, of which 25 were employers and the remaining 30 were employees.

At the same time, the repatriation procedures of third country nationals residing illegally in Cyprus continue. Within the first twelve days of 2024, a total of 277 third-country nationals returned to their countries of origin.

It is recalled that in the context of these operations, last year, a total of 9,699 third-country nationals were repatriated. This number corresponds to 88% of the total number of immigrant arrivals in 2023.
