SAMSUNG recently published the results of a survey on the public’s point of view electronic waste (electronic waste). It turns out that many of the respondents said they love hoarding their old gadgets.
This information comes from Samsung’s Green Print Survey with Morning Consult. They recruited 2,210 respondents aged 18 and over in the United States and asked for their opinion on the e-waste issue.
According to the survey results, nearly 50% of respondents agree that e-waste is a major problem affecting climate change. But 72% of respondents said they never recycle their electronic devices.

Apparently, most of the respondents prefer to keep their electronic devices out of date. 36% of respondents said they have a special drawer for storing old electronic devices. That figure rises to 54% for Gen Z youth.
The reasons vary, but most of them say they are very comfortable with their gadgets to the point of not wanting to be separated. Samsung calls this phenomenon ‘Digital FOMO’ (fear of losing or fear of getting lost).
24% of respondents said they were afraid of losing their photos cell phone never. 23% admit to keeping their old gadgets in case the new gadget has problems, as quoted by Tech Radar, Monday (10/17/2022).
Furthermore, even older generation cell phone users are concerned that sensitive information from their older phones may be leaked. Twenty-five percent of older respondents said they still keep old gadgets because they contain a lot of sensitive information they fear might leak.
Meanwhile, Gen Z cell phone users claim to be more confident in the security of the software on their gadgets. Generation Z is also more likely to keep their used phones to give to others.
Problemselectronic junk caused by old mobile phones or gadgets is in fact increasingly worrying. According to research from the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Forum (WEEE), there are more than five billion cell phones that will be junk this year.
Unfortunately, almost all mobile phones will be buried, disposed of or burned causing harm to the environment and health. Cell phones contain many minerals and components that can be recycled, including gold, copper, silver, and palladium.
