54 new ATMs in the first half of the year, or 7,667 in total in Morocco

The automated teller machines (ATM) network expanded 0.7% to 7,667 ATMs in the first six months of 2020, with the installation of 54 new teller machines, according to the Interbank Monetary Center (CMI).

The best-equipped cities are Casablanca with 1,533 ATMs, Marrakech (613), Rabat (612), Tangier (448), Agadir (400) and Fez (382), specifies the CMI in its report on payment activity in S1- 2020.

During the first half of the current year, the ATM network carried out 132.8 million withdrawals by Moroccan and foreign bank cards, down 15.5%, for a total amount of 130.6 billion dirhams ( MMDH) down 8.2%, or an average monthly activity of 3,325 withdrawal operations for 3.2 million dirhams (MDH) for each ATM, notes the same source.

The ratio of the number of cards issued in Morocco by ATMs, defined by the ratio of outstanding Moroccan bank cards to the number of ATMs installed, stood at 2,178 as of June 30, 2010, according to the CMI.
