53rd International Theater Festival to Pay Tribute to Veteran Actor José Félix Gómez

The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture (ICP) announced that it will dedicate the 53rd edition of the International Theater Festival to the experienced actor José Félix Gómez in a show that will be performed on the opening night of the festival this Saturday, at 7:00 pm at the Theater Shorty Castro from Santurce.

In a press release, the government institution reported that the tribute will manifest itself in an improvisation show in honor of the veteran artist by a group of improvisers led by Janibeth Santiago of the Puerto Rican League of Theater Improvisation.

The Puerto Rican will be highlighted for his interpretive versatility and commitment to performing arts. Among his most remembered works are works such as “Puerto Rico fuá”, “Los titingós de Juan Bobo”, “Amor en el hamlet”, “1898″, “I swear to you Juana that I have desires”, “Cyrano de Bergerac”, “The Seagull,” “Virginia Woolf,” “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” and his memorable performance as “Pedro Navaja” in “The True Story of Pedro Navaja.”

“It is a pride to be able to pay tribute in this International Theater Festival to the renowned actor and educator José Félix Gómez, who has a valuable career in theater, film and television. Furthermore, we value his great investigative legacy on Puerto Rican theater that he inherits to all Puerto Ricans,” expressed the executive director of the ICP, Carlos Ruiz Cortés, in written statements.

Gómez will be recognized for his career on stage as a writer, director and actor. In addition, he has stood out as a respected educator and an important pillar in the training of multiple theater professionals, said the press office of the public entity.

“We want the festival to be a space for meeting, dialogue and conversation beyond the programming of performances. This year we enriched the International Theater Festival with meetings to educate about theater and decipher the route we should take for the future,” explained the director of the ICP Performing Arts program, Ismanuel Rodríguez.

At a press conference, all the activities that will be carried out during the festival season and that will complement the theatrical offering were detailed.
