For the third time since 2019, since it was registered on the UCI calendar, the Tour d’Eure-et-Loir revealed its final winner during the 3rd and final stage. After the Dutchman Luuc Bugter (Beat Cycling) in 2019 and the Frenchman Paul Penhoët (Conti Groupama-FDJ) in 2021, who had a double blow by winning in Chartres and winning the leader’s jersey, history repeated itself. , this Sunday, June 12, 2022.
Jeannière slips from 1st to 3rd place
Emilien Jeannière (Vendée U) leader before the 3rd stage in Bû
Samuel Leroux (Go Sport – Roubaix Lille Métropole), 27, won the massive sprint and dispossessed of the yellow jersey Émilien Jeannière (Vendée U) who had taken the gold tunic on Friday at the end of the 1st stage . With the game of bonuses, the native of Boulogne-sur-Mer won the 53rd edition of the TEL, pushing back the Herbretais Jeannière to 5 seconds and ahead, in the general, of a small second, his teammate Valentin Tabellion, victorious the day before at La Ferté-Vidame and 2nd this Sunday.
53rd edition of the Tour d’Eure-et-Loir: Samuel Leroux (Go Sport / Roubaix) does double duty! [Revivez le direct]
We were far from imagining such a Hitchcockian scenario at the start of this final stage, between Bû and Chartres (184.6 km). After a dozen kilometers, two men managed to take to their heels. And not just any. We found the Breton Mathis Le Berre (Côtes d’Armor), 9th overall ten seconds behind the leader, and Mickaël Crispin (Cross Team Legendre).
Emilien Jeannière (Vendée U) wins the 1st stage
Then a few kilometers later, they were joined by the excellent rider Mickaël Guichard (Fybolia – Morbihan) and the New Zealander Ryan Christensen (Bolton), as dangerous as Le Berre for the general standings (6th at 10”). When the quartet passed Tréon (km 41), the peloton was then dropped at more than 3’30 and, at that time, the yellow jersey was on the shoulders of the “Kiwi”. But there were still more than 140 terminals to fill.

The game of cat and mouse
Seeing the danger, the peloton then began to roll and, at the first climber of the day, at Bréchamps (km 96), the gap had melted around a minute. The pack was going to play cat and mouse for a long time with the breakaway which then included six men with the South African Juan-Pierre Van der Merwe (Bridgelane) and Simon Baran (CC Étupes).
The Chartrains shone
Having entered the 53rd edition with modest ambitions – bringing at least one rider to their destination -, the Chartrains finish it credited with a more than honorable record: two Top 10 with Baptiste Constantin (opposite, at the start of the 3rd stage at Bû with former Eurelian rider Romuald Debon, 8th at Châteaudun and in the final general standings), a Top 20 (18th place for Ludovic Bideau at La Ferté-Vidame) and 9th place in the team classification.
A big reason for satisfaction for his young manager, Antonin Dauriannes: “We have largely exceeded our objectives. The icing on the cake is Baptiste’s 8th place overall. Knowing that three riders managed to complete the race (Constantin, Bideau and Fouquet). »

35 kilometers from the finish, in Soulaires, the junction was made. The leader’s jersey returned to Jeannière’s shoulders and Vendée U then had to manage the attacks which multiplied in the last hectometres. On arrival in Chartres, via Lèves and avenue d’Aligre, and despite a fall in this tortuous final, Roubaix, like the day before at La Ferté-Vidame, placed two men at the forefront.
Samuel Leroux paved the way for his teammate Tabellion who, if successful, could grab the leadership from Jeannière. But Leroux, 18th in the 4 Days of Dunkerque at the beginning of May and who had done no better than a 4th place at the GP of Lilles in March, scored a double blow, with the stage and the yellow jersey.
Samuel Leroux: “It’s the perfect weekend! »
“I know that I’m going to sprint quickly, I immediately took ten meters and I did the final flat out with Val (Valentin Tabellion) in my wheel. It’s only a class 2, but it’s good for morale. It’s the perfect weekend. We do 1 and 2 overall, it’s great! “, admitted the Calaisien who was not yet sure of the final classification. “It must be played for a second between Valentin and me. »
Finally, after the calculations, Samuel Leroux won the 53rd edition of the TEL for a precious small second.
