5168 new infections – less than 1000 corona patients in the hospital

The number of infections on Saturday was below the average for the past seven days (5,341). There are currently 69,542 active cases in Austria, a drop of 827 in one day.

5168 new infections with the corona virus have been registered in Austria in the past 24 hours. The numbers were at the level of last Saturday (5,199), but well below the 6,536 confirmed cases of the Saturday before last. The seven-day incidence fell from 462.1 cases per 100,000 population to 416.3 within a week. 14 more deaths related to Sars-CoV-2 have been registered since Friday, and 86 in the past seven days.

However, even two weeks after the announced late reporting of thousands of Covid deaths, there is still uncertainty about the exact number, because numbers from the federal states are still being reported later due to a data comparison. As of Friday, 2:00 p.m., the AGES dashboard already showed 19,773 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The number of hospitals continues to decline. Less than 1,000 Covid patients now require inpatient care. 983 people were treated in the hospitals on Saturday, 55 fewer than on Friday. Last Saturday there were 1,247 hospitalized, 87 of whom had to be treated in intensive care. There are currently 78 severe Covid cases in the hospitals, a drop of nine patients within a week.

A total of 100,126 rapid PCR and antigen tests have been registered in the past 24 hours. Of these, 89,293 were meaningful PCR tests. The positive rate of the PCR tests was 5.8 percent – it was significantly higher than last Saturday (3.5 percent) and also above the value in the week before (5.1 percent).

67.9 percent of Austrians have a valid vaccination

6661 vaccinations were carried out on Friday. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, a total of 6,824,331 people have already received at least one vaccination. 6,095,892 people and thus 67.9 percent of Austrians have a valid vaccination. The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland at 74.1 percent. In Lower Austria 70.2 percent of the population have a valid vaccination protection, in Styria 68.7 percent. After Vienna (66.8), Tyrol (65.8), Carinthia (64.7), Salzburg (64) and Vorarlberg (64), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 63.7 percent.

The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Vienna with 565, followed by Lower Austria, Burgenland and Upper Austria (555.3, 480.1 and 352.1 respectively). Salzburg (322.7), Vorarlberg (304.5), Carinthia (295.6), Styria (284.8) and Tyrol (265.6) follow.
