“Behind every number there is always a person”, said the “for one another” initiative launched by Caritas in the spring. “With a silent memorial at Stephansplatz, we want to give space to the mourning and pain for the victims of the pandemic,” emphasized the initiative, in which thousands of people from all over Austria stand up for cohesion and solidarity. According to AGES, the number is currently 5,017.

Call for participation
Coronavirus vigils have already been held in numerous cities in Switzerland. A national memorial service was held in Spain. “We wanted to create a space here too to commemorate the dead, to show that we are not forgetting them. Right now before Christmas and right now at the end of this demanding year. “
Today the initiative asked people all over Austria to follow the example and light a candle at home. It was encouraged to post photos of it.
