The medico-educational establishment Le Château will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on the theme of the Cannes Film Festival. The opportunity for the public to discover this structure dedicated to children, adolescents and young adults with severe mental deficiency.

“We are a medico-educational establishment and our main missions within the “Château” are to support children, adolescents and young adults with severe mental deficiency associated with either multiple disabilities or autism spectrum disorders. . It was in 1973 that the APEI Thionville (Association of Parents of Unsuitable Children), now Apei Moselle, created the Medical Educational Institute (IME) by investing in the Château d’Inglange”, says Florence Valente, the director .
“We welcome 30 children in boarding school and 13 in semi-boarding school. Open 365 days a year, we work in conjunction with the accompanied child and his family around the stay contract drawn up on admission and reassessed each year through personalized projects. We have around 70 professionals (nursing assistants, educators, psychologists, ASIs, etc.), all committed to serving people. »
Open doors and raise awareness about disability
This anniversary will be an opportunity for the team to invite the families of former residents, families and friends as well as the children currently present. Former professionals who remain very attached to the castle will also be present. “The town hall and the people of the town will also be welcome if they wish to come and discover the structure and have a friendly time. Our wish is to open the doors and make people aware of the handicap, inclusion is not only played out at school”, insists Florence Valente.

“Our main objective remains to please children and families and spend a festive time together around the values that bring us together. The morning of this Saturday, July 1st will be rather reserved for those who wish to discover the structure with the presence of a gospel group for the reception and visit by the professionals as well as the presence of the association “Les p’tits potos” which will offer rounds of joëllettes. The afternoon will offer other surprises with a shop, entertainment stands, singers, popcorn, cotton candy…
