Swiss police seized 500 kilograms of cocaine on Monday evening among a shipment of coffee sent to a Nespresso factory. Employees at the Romont factory in western Switzerland alerted authorities after they found white powder in bags of coffee beans during unloading.
Brazil
Police later found more cocaine in five shipping containers delivered to the factory by train. An investigation would show that the shipment came from Brazil.
In a statement, Nespresso said that “all products are safe” and that there can be no drugs in the coffee capsules.
50 million euros
The seized cocaine was according to the police 80% pure and had an estimated street value of almost 50 million euros.
The police speak of an “extraordinary drug bust” and a major seizure for the canton of Friborg. The cocaine was probably destined for the European market.
The public prosecutor of the canton of Friborg has launched an investigation.
