The Ukrainian army expects air defense systems from allied countries to deal with them
The Russian military increasingly began to use cruise bombs for attacks. This was said by the spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat, quoted by the Ukrainian Focus.
According to him, the use of cruise bombs by Russia is a new threat to Ukraine, since the enemy has started using these adjustable bombs almost every day.
“This is a new threat that has appeared before us: without flying in the destruction zone of our air defense, they drop these bombs. Bombs of 500 kilograms fly tens of kilometers,” Ignat said.
The spokesperson of the Armed Forces emphasized that such a bomb can be dealt with by the means of air defense. But for this, it is necessary to increase the pressure on the countries allied to Ukraine to speed up the transfer of the necessary equipment.
Yuriy Ignat also added that even in the most optimal situation, the air defense systems could not cover the entire territory of Ukraine. Therefore, with the new threat from the Russian Federation – winged bombs – they will have to fight with new methods.
“This bomb has a warhead, something must be done about it. Not only the air defense systems we are waiting for,” said the spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On March 12, the Russian Armed Forces first used an analogue of the JDAM-ER cruise bomb. During the flight, the wings broke off near the bomb, and the 500-kilogram FAB-500 projectile fell into the garden of residents of occupied Donetsk.
In addition, on March 4, it became known that the Russian Federation for the first time used new bombs weighing 1500 kg against Ukraine. The UPAB-1500B ammunition was introduced in the Russian Federation in 2019, and was developed for the destruction of highly protected objects within a radius of up to 40 km.
