The news was revealed in a Washington Post report released Tuesday (10/18/2022).
“More than 500 former military service members have advised foreign governments in deals that are sometimes paid far more than a four-star general’s maximum annual salary of $ 203,698,” the newspaper report said.

U.S. federal law requires retired military personnel to obtain government authorization to receive any type of funding or gift from a foreign government or state corporation.
“However, most of the formalities and approvals are near-automatic, with 95 percent of requests granted,” the Post’s report said.
Former NSA director Keith Alexander was paid heavily to help build and run Saudi Arabia’s first cyberwarfare university training program in 2018.

Alexander worked with Saud al-Qahtani, an influential figure who oversaw the critics of Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), including former Washington Post collaborator who was killed Jamal Khashoggi.
Qahtani was sanctioned by the US Treasury in 2018 for allegedly participating in the operation that led to Khashoggi’s death. However, Alexander was allowed to work for him.
