The original Renault 5 was introduced in 1972 and became one of the French automaker’s most successful models, selling more than five million units by the time the second generation was introduced in 1984. It is not so surprising that society remembered his fame and anniversary.

As part of the celebrations, a unique prototype was created, the bodywork of which corresponds to the original model, however, it has an electric motor under the hood and abounds in luxury in the cabin. The new product called Diamant was created in collaboration with designer Pierre Gonalons, has a three-layer pink lacquer and gold accessories.

However, the accessories are not actually made of gold, but of gilded brass, which can be found on door handles or rear-view mirrors.

The cabin abounds in novelty. The dashboard is decorated with horsehair fabric and the steering wheel is made of recycled marble. Among other things, there is also a fingerprint reader or a digital instrument panel. In the middle of the cabin there is an opening for a smartphone, which serves as infotainment.

Diamant is a prototype that will remain in the Renault museum, but there is no reason to be sad. A new electric car named Renault 5 will soon arrive on the market. The start of production is scheduled for 2024.
