The Book Fair celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. An edition that has managed to face the pandemic to recover the presentations, signatures and storytellers. It starts on Sunday under the slogan Libros no camiño and 18 bookstores in the province of Coruña and eight publishing firms participate in it. It will remain open in the gardens of Méndez Núñez until August 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., although on weekends and holidays it lasts until 2:30 p.m. This year’s proclamation will be given by the journalist and writer Luís Pousa from A Coruña.
Almost a hundred activities make up a program that begins on Sunday, at 12.30 pm, by the hand of the Councilor for Tourism, Juan Ignacio Borrego. Writers such as Manuel Rivas, Ledicia Costas, El Hematocrítico, Yolanda Castaño, Marilar Aleixandre, Miguel Conde Lobato, Blanca Millán, Rober Cagiao and Arantza Portabales, among many others, will pass through the booths.
The restrictions due to COVID-19 will be present in this edition. In front of the booths, the organizers report, a one-way circuit will be marked to guarantee social distance between visitors, who must wear a mask and use hydroalcoholic gel. The City Council wanted to make a nod to this Book Fair, which turns 50, with the development of a commemorative poster. With the title O mundo nas túas mans, in the illustration you can see a woman reading a book next to some stairs and with the booths in the background, all in blue, red and yellow tones. The booksellers will be able to make a 10% discount on purchases, although the local Executive is already preparing an initiative similar to the Presco Bonds to continue promoting purchases in culture.
In addition to presentations and signatures, the Book Fair recovers the storytellers with Pedro Brandariz (August 2), Victoria García and Laura Cortés (August 3), Irene Lata (August 6 and 10) and Elvira Riveiro and Noe González (7 of August). An act on the figure of Emilia Pardo Bazán with Eduardo Riestra, Blanca Rodríguez and José María Paz Gago has been prepared for August 5 and a recital of poems from the book Manifesto 25-N will be held on August 9. There will also be space for music, with the concert by Paco Nogueiras, who will also sign his work Extra.
