Iranian Amou Haji – defined by various media as “the dirtiest man in the world” – has died at the age of 94.
Haji has gone over 50 years without washing. Fearing that soap and water would make him sick, he refused when his neighbors from the village in southern Iran tried to persuade him to take a bath.
Earlier this year, he took his first bath in decades, Iranian news agency IRNA reported according to the BBC.
Haji told the Tehran Times in 2014 that he ate run over animals, preferably hedgehogs. He also loved to smoke and let himself be pictured as he smoked multiple cigarettes at the same time, skriver The Guardian.
According to the BBC, it is somewhat controversial whether Haji is actually the person who went the longest without washing, and they point out that in 2009 an Indian man would have spent 35 years without brushing or brushing his teeth.
Was Hindustan Times as it was then mentioned the unwashed Indian, Kailash “Kalau” Singh. He claimed that he would not wash himself with water, but rather with a “fire bath”.
According to Singh, this “washing” involved lighting a fire, smoking marijuana and praying to the god Shiva. He also said he only drank hot water to keep himself healthy.
