“It is almost impossible to imagine, but in 1971 the hamburger was an unknown snack,” says Hilde on Radio 2 Antwerp. “We didn’t know what was coming. All my dad had heard was that a hamburger restaurant was coming. That opening was a very big party. A hamburger then cost 16 francs. For us that was a feast. eat with your hands. Our mom thought that was sublime.”
