Students in grades 1 through 4 will be able to return to school as early as November 10 with twice-weekly testing in classrooms using saliva tests in a container, after which a sample is taken from the container to the test can be taken, the Ministry of Education and Science announced.
In order to return to class, half of the parents of students in grades 1 through 4 must agree to have their children tested. Testing will take place in the first 30 minutes of the first class on Mondays and Thursdays.
The testing will be done by secreting saliva into a container, after which a sample is taken from it in order to be able to do the test, explained Minister of Education Nikolay Denkov.
Whether students will be able to return to school will depend on whether the test providers make the deliveries on time, which means Monday – November 8 at the latest.
Students whose parents do not wish their children to be tested will be taught synchronously or asynchronously according to the school’s capabilities.
Pedagogical and non-pedagogical specialists will receive additional remuneration for testing for the two months until the end of the year.
The tests will be presented to parents before they are asked if they consent to their children being tested to enter a class.
The time until the tests are delivered to schools will be used for a communication campaign to inform teachers and parents about the people who will be taking the tests.
Students will be wearing masks at school except when they are being swabbed for testing.
The goal is that if one of the children turns out to have a positive result, his classmates will not be infected.
If a student tests positive, they will be separated from the class.
Medical professionals, where available, parents, mediators, teaching and non-teaching staff will be involved in the organization of the school testing.
The requirement for them is that they have been vaccinated or have had an illness or have been tested for Covid.
