On Thursday, northern Israeli areas witnessed intense bombardment originating from Lebanese territory, in continuation of tensions in the border area between the two countries.
Israeli Army Radio described the bombing as “the heaviest since the beginning of the war,” noting that “at least 50 missiles were launched from Lebanon toward the Upper Galilee.”
The border region in southern Lebanon has witnessed a worsening military escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, since the Hamas movement launched an unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7.
On Thursday, Hezbollah announced that its Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, received Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who is visiting Lebanon.
A party statement said that the officials reviewed “the latest developments in Palestine, Lebanon and the region, and the existing possibilities regarding the course of events and the efforts made to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.”
Since the start of the cross-border escalation, 107 people have been killed in Lebanon, including 75 Hezbollah fighters and 14 civilians, including 3 journalists, according to a tally prepared by Agence France-Presse.
The Israeli authorities, for their part, reported that 9 people were killed, including 3 civilians.
On Wednesday night, Hezbollah announced the killing of 5 of its fighters, including Abbas, the son of the head of its parliamentary bloc, MP Muhammad Raad, after Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon.
