On Saturday night, police arrested about fifty football fans in Best, who allegedly sought a mutual confrontation. During the check, a car deliberately tried to run into the officers. Also seized several bats, a knife and other objects. They would be fans of FC Utrecht and PSV. PSV – FC Utrecht will be played on Sunday in the Eredivisie.
The police had driven dozens of cars to a parking lot on Best’s Oude Rijksweg, because the football fans had wanted to fight each other at this point. Information about this had been received by the police. A Mobile Unit van was also deployed to nip problems in the bud.
A police spokesperson could not confirm that they were FC Utrecht and PSV supporters, as suggested earlier in the evening by a football support platform. According to her, not everyone could or wanted to identify themselves. Also, not everyone wore a shirt from their favorite club.
In the end it was decided to arrest the entire group that had wanted to fight each other and to take them by bus to a police station for interrogation and identification.
It happens regularly that football fans want to quarrel with each other ‘by appointment’. Fans of Brabant clubs, among others, have built a dubious reputation in this area in recent years, both at home and abroad.
