50 evacuated after landslide in Inderøy – NRK Trøndelag

The police received a report about the collapse just after 01:00 on the night of Monday. At 03:00 it was decided to evacuate around 50 people from the homes.

It was initially reported that the landslide should be around 50 meters wide, but later it turned out to be around ten metres.

Close to a housing estate

The landslide occurred close to a residential building on the Kvistadbakken housing estate, just outside the center of Straumen. The road by the housing estate is closed at the site.

– We now consider that there is no danger to houses and people, but if the rain continues, there is a risk that the road will be washed away. The landslide has affected two house plots, where the houses have suffered a little from the landslide, said duty manager Stig Lunde at Midt-Norge 110 central to Adresseavisen.

A rescue helicopter was sent up to get an overview of water flowing through the housing estate, and then it was decided to evacuate. The municipality has set up a separate evacuation center at Inderøyheimen for evacuees and relatives,

The police, Red Cross and Sanitation receive and help the evacuees, informs Inderøy municipality.

A geologist will investigate the site more closely when it gets light on Monday morning.

Danger of closed roads

Large amounts of rainfall and the risk of landslides mean that roads in Trøndelag can be closed at short notice, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration states in a press release.

Large amounts of rainfall have been reported in Trøndelag on Sunday evening and Monday. This can lead to roads being closed at short notice.

The precipitation can lead to floods and landslides in several places in the area.

– We are following the situation closely and have implemented several reinforced measures on the national roads for which the Norwegian Public Roads Administration has operational responsibility. We encourage everyone who is going out on the road to follow the traffic reports on www.175.no, says Bjørn Ove Rotlid, section manager for Operations in the middle of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
