A 5-year-old is the latest on a list of young people who have walked the entirety of the Appalachian Trail.
Harvey Sutton, who begins kindergarten on Friday, is one of the youngest to accomplish the feat. He did so by accompanying his parents, who made the journey of more than 3,300 kilometers (2,100 miles) in 209 days.
The little boy says it was difficult, but he had fun watching frogs, lizards and other little animals and, particularly, eating peanut butter tortillas.
“The rocky parts were tough but fun. We are not bored at all, ”said the boy by phone from Virginia, where he lives with his parents, Josh and Cassie Sutton.
The parents were so attentive to their son that it distracted them from the pain and natural exhaustion of that journey.
“This adventure has brought us together and strengthened us as a family,” said Cassie Sutton.
Other guys have taken the trail from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. There are even babies who have done it, carried in backpacks by their persevering parents.
Harvey was 4 when his parents started the tour in January, and he turned 5 before they finished it in Maine last week.
