DIRECTIONS OF PANTURA – The weather tends to change, sometimes it’s hot and then it rains, making it easy for bacteria and viruses to appear. Therefore, we must strengthen our immune system to avoid diseases that are common during the rainy season. Examples are colds, flu, coughs and fever.
“The rainy season has started, it’s time to strengthen the immune system to prevent various diseases. You can do this by consuming foods rich in vitamin C and exercising regularly,” said dr. Fadhli Rizal Makarim.
Here are some ways you can boost your immune system during the rainy season:
1. Consume foods rich in vitamin C
Vitamin C is useful for strengthening the immune system. This can increase the body’s ability to fight infection. In addition, vitamin C also encourages the formation of cells that strengthen the immune system and increase the cell’s immunological response.
“To get vitamin C, you can eat citrus fruits, lemons, limes, peppers, broccoli, other green vegetables, and tomatoes,” said dr. Fadhli.
2. Get enough sleep
“Eight hours of sleep each night relaxes the body and prepares it for the next day. In addition, adequate sleep can also boost immunity and prevent flu and other illnesses during the rainy season,” he said.
3. Drink enough water
Drinking water does not always protect the body from bacteria and viruses, but it can prevent the body from becoming dehydrated. Be careful, dehydration can cause headaches and affect physical performance, concentration, mood, digestion, and heart and kidney function. The resulting complications can increase the body’s susceptibility to disease.
“To prevent dehydration, you must drink enough fluids every day. Water is preferred because it does not contain calories, additives and sugar,” he added.
4. Take a shower immediately if it’s raining
“If you get caught in the rain while driving outside the house, you should immediately take a shower. Because rainwater that wets the body and clothes can contain viruses and bacteria that can cause disease,” said dr. Fadhli.
5. Exercise regularly
“Exercise not only keeps the body fit, but also strengthens the body’s immune system. Exercise can improve blood circulation and stimulate the production of serotonin in the body,” dr. Fadli added.
