5 Ways to Avoid Fraud Via Whatsapp

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Changes in communication technology have not stopped the fraudulent actions of several individuals. Previously, many people carried out fraudulent actions via SMS and cell phones, recently, these malicious actions were carried out through applications Whatsapp.

The mode of fraud through Whatsapp is usually in the form of phishing. Through a message, someone will be directed to click on the link.

This action seems simple, but the consequences are big like account hijacking or misuse of personal data.

CNNIndonesia.com have summarized several ways to prevent Whatsapp users from being scammed or other forms of crime. Here are the steps.

1. Two-Step Verification

The Whatsapp application provides a two-step verification feature. The way this feature works starts with a six-digit user-registered PIN. Users can also choose to enter an email address.

Regularly and periodically, Whatsapp will ask users to enter this 6-digit code. If the person concerned forgets, the Whatsapp authority will send a notification via email.

It is important to note that this 6 -digit code may not be distributed to anyone. Because, this code is the access key using your Whatsapp.

Another thing to note is that Whatsapp users should not click on links in emails asking for a reset of the registration code or PIN. Because, it could be that someone is trying to seize access to Whatsapp users.

How to use the two-step verification feature is not difficult. The user opens the “settings” menu, then the “account” option, followed by selecting “Two-Step Verification”. Then, follow the next instructions.
