CANTIKA.COM, Jakarta – Cancer is a serious health problem that can affect individuals of all genders including women. There are some the most common type of cancer in womenFor example breast, ovarian, cervical and uterine cancer. This cancer can have a significant impact on a woman’s physical and emotional health, as well as her quality of life.
“Cancer affects millions of people worldwide and can occur in many parts of the body. Women are particularly susceptible to certain types of cancer including breast cancer, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer and colorectal cancer,” said Dr. Monica Gulati, executive dean at Lovely Professional University, India, quoted from Times of Indiaon Monday, February 6, 2023.
Here are five cancers that often attack women
1. Lung Cancer
Smoking has increased the incidence of lung cancer in women. From exposure to the same cigarette, it appears that female smokers have a higher risk of developing lung cancer than male smokers. Among non-smokers, women are also more likely to develop lung cancer.
2. Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers in women. A woman’s chance of developing breast cancer is 1 in 8. A woman’s risk of developing breast cancer increases if she is physically inactive, obese or overweight after menopause.
Compared with older women at a healthy weight, those who are overweight or obese have a higher risk of developing breast cancer.
3. Colorectal Cancer (Large Intestine)
A woman’s chance of developing colon cancer is 1 in 24. The average age at which women are diagnosed with colon cancer is 72, and for men, the average age at diagnosis is 68, according to the American Society for Clinical Oncology.
With early detection, regular check-ups, proper treatment, and a healthy lifestyle, women can reduce their risk of developing this disease and increase their chances of successful treatment.
4. Cervical Cancer
“Cervical cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. It occurs in the cells of the cervix, the entrance to the uterus from the vagina,” said Dr. Kamini Rao, Padma Shree Awardee and Chief Mentor, Milann Fertility Center, India.
Every year, more than half a million women, mostly between the ages of 35 and 444 years are diagnosed with cervical cancer worldwide, and the disease results in more than 300,000 deaths.
If your body doesn’t fight the infection, it can cause your cervical cells to turn into cancer cells. “Having regular gynecological check-ups, HPV vaccine, pap smears, and practicing safe sex are the most important steps you can take to prevent cervical cancer,” explains Dr. Rao.
5. Uterine Cancer
Uterine cancer, also known as endometrial cancer, is cancer of the lining of the uterus, at the end of the ometrium. This is the most common type of cancer that affects the female reproductive organs, making it more common than cervical cancer or ovarian cancer. Chances of a woman getting uterine cancer is 1 in 36. Hormonal changes, especially estrogen, one of the causes of uterine cancer.
