KONTAN.CO.ID – The daily case of Covid-19 in Indonesia has crossed the 50,000 mark, following the Delta variant which is increasingly spreading. The public must be more vigilant, including by recognizing the symptoms of the corona virus.
The World Health Organization or WHO in mid-June stated that the drastic increase in the occupancy rate of hospital beds in Indonesia for Covid-19 patients should be a major concern.
Therefore, WHO asks the Indonesian government to implement stricter public health protocol measures, including large-scale social restrictions.
“With the increase in transmission due to variant of concern (which needs to be watched out for), urgent action is needed to address the situation in many provinces,” the WHO said in its situation report, as quoted by Channel News Asia.
Launching data from the Covid-19 Task Force, on Thursday, July 15, 2021, there were an additional 56,757 new cases of the corona virus in Indonesia. This figure is the highest since the pandemic.
A new, more contagious variant of the corona virus is behind the spike in cases in a number of areas in Indonesia, such as Jakarta. The new dominant variant is mainly B.1.617.2 or the Delta variant which was first discovered in India.
