KONTAN.CO.ID – Covid-19 cases in Indonesia are increasing, following a new variant of the corona virus that is increasingly spreading. The public must be more vigilant, including by recognizing the symptoms of the corona virus.
The World Health Organization or WHO on Thursday (17 June) stated that the drastic increase in the occupancy rate of hospital beds in Indonesia for Covid-19 patients should be a major concern.
Therefore, WHO asks the Indonesian government to implement stricter public health protocol measures, including large-scale social restrictions.
“With the increase in transmission due to the variant of concern (which needs to be watched out for), urgent action is needed to address the situation in many provinces,” the WHO said in its situation report, as quoted Channel News Asia.
Launching data from the Covid-19 Task Force, on Thursday there were an additional 12,624 new cases of the corona virus in Indonesia. The figure was the highest since January 30, when it recorded 14,518, the highest on record since the pandemic.
A new, more contagious variant of the corona virus is behind the spike in cases in a number of areas in Indonesia, such as Jakarta. The new dominant variants are mainly B.1.617.2 or the Delta variant which was first discovered in India.

- Dry cough
- Fatigue
Less common coronavirus symptoms that may affect some patients:
- Loss of taste or smell
- Nasal congestion
- Conjunctivitis (also known as pink eye)
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Muscle or joint pain
- Different types of skin rash
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Shivering or dizziness
