Account though WhatsApp (WA) can easily be hijacked by using one of them software up to date, you can still recognize a number of its symptoms.

One of the cases of cellphone hacking targeting WA numbers had befallen dozens of Narasi media crews last year.

“A total of 34. The details are 27 narrative media workers, seven ex-narrators. The category of hacking and hacking attempts,” said Narasi TV Founder, Najwa Shihab via text message, Tuesday (27/9/2022) evening.

The targets were social media accounts such as Whatsapp, Twitter and Instagram.

Social media accounts such as Whatsapp can be an entry point to get other information. The reason is, the majority of the world’s citizens now use Whatsapp to share information.

Here are at least five signs that you must know, whether your WhatsApp account has been hacked or tapped or hijacked:

1. Get the OTP sent

One-Time Password (OTP) is a critical thing commonly used to access accounts. If you receive an OTP code via SMS or phone while you’re not doing anything, never hand over the code to anyone.

Providing a code can make it easier for hackers to tap into your account. If you suddenly receive an OTP code and exit the app by itself, there is a possibility that your account is being cloned by someone else.

2. Read message

One of the signs that WA was hijacked is a message that has been read when you haven’t opened the message.

Read messages are marked with two blue ticks in the message section. This flag can be activated in the settings section.

3. Mysterious messages

Another sign of WhatsApp being tapped is that messages have been sent to other contacts without your knowledge.

You should be suspicious if you feel you never sent the mysterious message. There’s a high chance that someone else managed to hack into your account and send the message.

4. Online status when inactive

The online status is usually displayed if you are actually opening Whatsapp. On accounts that have been tapped, the status can appear even if you are not active.

If that’s the case, you can deactivate the Whatsapp account to stop the process of using Whatsapp on the hacker’s device.

5. Go out suddenly

Whatsapp cannot be used on two cellphones at the same time. As a result, if your WhatsApp account suddenly exits, you should suspect that your account is being used on another cellphone.

If the same number is registered on another device, you will get a warning on your cellphone, like the following:

“Your phone number is no longer registered with WhatsApp on the phone. It’s probably because you registered it on another phone. If you didn’t do this, verify your phone number to log back into your account.”

If you get that notification and don’t feel like entering the same Whatsapp number in another device, never press OK.
