Many of them had forms so terrifying that it was inconceivable that animal-these animals are still in the present day. Here are 5 animals with the most terrifying forms that have lived in the past.

1. Dark Osteus

This giant “armored” fish measuring about 10 meters from the Devonian era has no teeth, but its mouth and jaws are lined with sharp bones that can be used to pierce and cut its prey.

These bones grow continuously and will sharpen each other, so that the bones will always be sharp and ready to tear their prey. This four-tonne fish is commonly found in coastal waters.

2. Sarchosuchus

The crocodiles that we meet today already have a very terrible shape, but imagine if there was a crocodile measuring about 12 meters and weighing about 10 tons (the largest crocodile ever recorded today was “Lolong” which measures 6.17 meters and weighs approximately 1 ton ).

This ancient crocodile lived during the Cretaceous period and lived in what is now Africa and South America. At that time, Sarchosuchus was the apex predator. Sarcosuchus preyed on whatever was in front of him, on land or in the waters. It turns out that Sarcosuchus once lived side by side with dinosaurs and often became their prey.

3. Arthropleura

One type of animal that is feared by humans, even though it is classified as small, insects have a form that is quite scary. For those who are currently still phobic about insects, you should be grateful, because this one animal is extinct.

Arthropleura is a millipede that has a body length of about 2.6 meters. According to research, Arthropleura are herbivores like millipedes that live today, although herbivores just imagining the form of this giant millipede makes the hairs stand on end.

4. Megalodon

This shark, which has a length of nearly 20 meters, became the apex predator in ancient waters. Megalodon had a jaw that was 2.1 meters wide which contained 5 rows of about 276 compressed, knife-like teeth which were used to cut and capture prey.

Because Megalodon’s skeleton was made of cartilage, food would have been difficult to preserve in the fossil record, making the jaws and some trace fossils of Megalodon difficult for paleontologists to reconstruct.

5. Titanoboa

This snake species has a very large size, Titanoboa can grow up to 13 meters (the largest snake today is the green anaconda, which measures about 9 meters). Titanoboa weighed 1.1 tons and lived in tropical forests and waters.

Experts believe fossilized teeth indicate they were scavengers, but the Titanoboa were undoubtedly capable of killing any animal within their range.

Unfortunately, Titanoboa’s large body made them unable to adapt to environmental changes. Therefore, these terrible creatures disappeared from the face of the earth more than 60 million years ago.
