5 new mini-accommodation for rent to fully enjoy nature

August is already well underway, but it’s never too late to treat yourself to a holiday for two under the stars.

Here are some brand new ready-to-camp sites to reserve by the end of summer or during the season of colors.

* As of this writing, there are still some availabilities! Be quick!

1. The incredible domes of Carleton-sur-Mer, in the Gaspé

Perched on the mountainside, at an altitude of more than 500 m, the five new geodomes of the Mont-Saint-Joseph regional park offer magnificent views of Chaleur Bay and the Carleton-sur-Mer lagoon. Intimate and partly transparent, each of them has a mezzanine with a king-size bed, a modern kitchenette, a dining table, hammocks and a terrace with a BBQ. The geodes also have air conditioning, electric heating and a compost toilet. A sanitary block is located nearby.

Available since 1is August 2020 only, these perched domes are added to the hiking and mountain biking trails of Mont Saint-Joseph, its belvedere and its historic chapel. They risk quickly becoming a new must-see in the Gaspé!

L’UNIQ hotel lives up to its name: it is not a hotel like the others. It is a small eco-responsible village of ten “glamorous camping” tents, which move to different places in Quebec. The tents are furnished (double bed, chairs, etc.) and set up in kind. The pop-up hotel also includes a communal tent for cooking and relaxing, as well as sanitary facilities.

Want to try the experience? The “Unités nomades insolites québécoises” (UNIQ) first stopped in the Grandes-Rivières regional park, in Lac-Saint-Jean. They will then land on the shores of Lac Taureau, in Lanaudière; at the Jardins de Métis, at the entrance to the Gaspé Peninsula; and in the bay of Beauport, in Quebec. Their season will end around mid-October.

From $ 130 per night

3. The “trapper’s tents” for lovers of Sutton

Huttopia Sutton’s “glamping” tents are no longer a secret, nor its restaurant in the woods serving homemade pizzas. But this summer, the estate is opening five new units in its most intimate and secluded area (our favorite!), Near a small stream where you can swim. These are tents Trapper Duo Nature, designed for one or two people.

Without electricity, they are equipped with a “King” bed, a BBQ, a stove and the necessary for cooking, as well as a dry toilet and a sink with water tank. On the gallery: a small outdoor lounge where you can read, stroll, have a drink or sip your coffee.

Between $ 109 and $ 190 per night

4. The Nova, new ready-to-camp from Sépaq

For the moment, there are only two of them and are only found in Mont-Orford National Park, in the Eastern Townships. The Nova are smaller and less equipped versions of the Étoile ready-to-camp, which appeared in Sépaq parks in 2018.

Cubic and minimalist, the Nova accommodates four travelers and has two double beds, a dining table, electricity, a propane stove and cooking equipment. Their covered terrace is their big advantage: it allows you to “live outside” rain or shine.

Available since the end of June, these two units are located not far from the beach of Lac Stukely and several hiking trails, including that of Mont-Chauve. They are prototypes. Sépaq is collecting comments from travelers this summer and will see whether or not it installs the units in the parks in the future. We bet it does.

From $ 94 per night in low season / $ 114 in high season (plus park access fees)

5. The future wilderness refuges of Charlevoix

Have you heard of the “wilderness resort” project Charlevoix territory? This is a 2.5 square km estate located in the Charlevoix hinterland, in Sainte-Agnès, where five rustic and designer shelters will be built. Territoire Charlevoix will also offer a Japanese-inspired platform with a fireplace, communal kitchen and relaxation areas, wilderness camping sites, hiking trails and foraging in the woods. All this in an isolated forest between Baie-Saint-Paul and La Malbaie!

A crowdfunding campaign took place this spring to move the project forward, and the four-season shelters are scheduled to open in late fall 2020.
