It is a new important fire which mobilizes the firefighters of Côte-d’Or this Friday afternoon. After the Beaune region and the surroundings of Dijon, it is now the Morvan which is in the grip of the flames.
Firefighters from Nièvre and Saône-et-Loire as reinforcements
Shortly before 4 p.m., a fire broke out in the vicinity of Savilly, in the extreme south-west of the Côte-d’Or, in an area rich in vegetation of shrubs and fir trees.

An hour later, nearly a hundred firefighters came from Côte-d’Or (Saulieu, Pouilly, Bligny, Dijon, Nolay…) but also from the neighboring departments of Nièvre and Saône-et- Loire which are mobilized on the spot. At that time, about 1 hectare of vegetation had gone up in smoke but the fire threatened a large fir forest of 20 hectares located nearby.

The fire fixed but always watched closely
Two hours later, we were able to check in with the Controller General and Director of Sdis 21Regis Ten to. “At 7 p.m., the fire is considered fixed, thanks to the means committed and the creation of a stop line which will allow the flames to stop their progression. In all, between 3 and 4 hectares burned on the side of Morvan, mainly unmaintained forest trees, conifers and hardwoods”. For his part, the mayor of Savilly, Gilbert Flacelière, mentioned 5 hectares destroyed during the evening.
The Sdis underlines the support of the personnel of the Saône-et-Loire and the Nièvre as well as the FAG (air forces of the gendarmerie) and their reconnaissance by helicopter. In all, one hundred firefighters and forty vehicles were deployed on this umpteenth fire of the summer season.
An area that was not the most at risk
The Sdis recalls, however, that the workforce will still be present for several hours in order to “drown” the fire and avoid, as we have seen in Gironde, any resumption. The organization also specifies that the flames have gained ground in an area which was not reported as a “severe” risk.
On the spot, the mayors of the municipalities concerned or nearby did not hide their concern and deplored the sometimes negligent behavior of certain walkers. However, the cause of the fire on Friday remains, for the time being, unknown.
