Every year, New York reserves its share of novelties! And 2018 will be no exception, whether it is new buildings or new overhead lines. Here’s why you should plan a trip to New York in 2018:
1 / Take advantage of the new air fares
The year 2018 will be marked by a formidable price war between the airlines serving New York! In June 2018, the Danish company Primera Air will launch its low cost flights between Paris and New York, followed in September 2018 by the Spanish company Level, a subsidiary of the parent company of British Airways and Iberia.
Air France will not be outdone since the French national company will set up, from April 2018, a new price list with a price without checked baggage. It’s up to you to take advantage of this competition!

2 / Climb aboard the Vessel
2018 will mark the opening of an astonishing giant sculpture in the heart of Manhattan: the Vessel (the “Vaisseau” in French). This work of art, created by British designer Thomas Heatherwick, will be inaugurated in the fall of 2018 at the foot of the new towers in the Hudson Yards district, at the north entrance of the High Line promenade.
This giant structure, shaped like a honeycomb, will be 45 meters high and will be open to the public. You can jump up the stairs and enjoy breathtaking views of the Hudson River.
3 / Discover the new buildings
New buildings are appearing in the New York landscape in 2018! Here are the new features to see:
- Among the most anticipated skyscrapers, the Financial District will see the opening of Tower 3 World Trade Center. This 411-meter-high square building was designed by the British architectural firm Rogers Stirk Harbor + Partners, creator of the strange headquarters of Lloyd’s and the Millennium Dome in London.
- Also in the Financial District, you can discover the new Saint Nicholas National Shrine Orthodox Church at the World Trade Center. This church was designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the same architect as the World Trade Center station and the TGV station at Lyon airport. The church was built on the foundations of the former St Nicholas Orthodox Church destroyed during the collapse of the World Trade Center Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.
- In Midtown, you can’t miss a giant new tower: Tower 53W53, in Midtown, at the corner of 53rd Street and 6th Avenue, right next to the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This 320-meter-high building, 20 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower, was designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel. This building will establish itself as the 15th tallest skyscraper in New York.
- Another great novelty for 2018: the 277 Fifth Avenue tower, the little sister of the 432 Park tower. This 220-meter-high building will be inaugurated at the end of 2018 on 5th Avenue, a stone’s throw from Madison Square Park and the Empire State building. This residential building was designed by the Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly, who created the 432 Park tower.
4 / Visit New York’s new museums
If you’ve been to all the museums in New York before, here’s something new for you!
- Since May 2017, the Gulliver’s Gate Museum invites you to explore the world in scale models. The museum notably offers models of New York.
- Another new museum to see in New York: the NFL Experience in Times Square. Open since November 2017, this interactive museum immerses you in the world of the national football league. It’s up to you to win the Super Bowl! You can book your tickets on the page of the NFL Experience Times Square.
5 / Say hello to the little girl from Wall Street
Until the end of February 2018, you will be able to visit the bronze statue of the Little Girl on Wall Street. The Fearless Girl was installed by surprise in front of the bull of Wall Street on March 8, 2017, on the occasion of the day of the woman. The objective was to challenge passers-by on the place of women in society in general and in the world of finance in particular.
The statue was placed illegally, but New York City Hall finally authorized its presence for one year. To see if the statue will be dismantled in March or if it will remain a little longer …
