5 features we miss with the new Apple tablet

The iPad mini 6 has a lot to offer the consumer, I recently concluded in my review. Compared to the previous model, a lot has changed and the tablet keeps up with the times.

Still, there are a few things that I kind of missed in my time with the tablet. I will list these things for you today.

iPad mini 6: 5 features I miss

The iPad mini 6 is without a doubt my favorite tablet that Apple has to offer right now. I like the small size and all the improvements the company has made over the previous model. Of course that doesn’t mean I’m not missing anything.

The following 5 functionalities, in my opinion, should have been part of the iPad mini 6:

#1 ProMotion

I understand why Apple chose to drop ProMotion, but that doesn’t mean I’m not missing out. For the price of at least €559, I think the iPad mini 6 could offer a higher refresh rate. Something that would have made the use just a little better, especially considering this tablet is excellent for playing games.

Is the iPad mini 6’s 8.3-inch display a disappointment? No definitely not! But the addition of 120Hz could have gotten so much more out of it.

#2 iPad mini 6: water resistance

Due to the compact design and light weight, the iPad mini 6 is ideal for a trip. I prefer to take this tablet with me everywhere I go and it is striking to see that Apple has not made certain choices.

For example, no iPad model has an IP rating at the time of writing. Now it is of course not the intention that you go swimming with the tablets, but in the case of the mini 6, such water resistance would certainly not be out of place. Even if it already is, so that you can read a book at the pool or on the beach with peace of mind.

#3 A cheaper version

The iPad mini 6 is about $100 cheaper than the iPad Air (2020). Given its performance, that’s quite logical, but given the history of the mini, it’s a shame. The 2019 model, for example, still cost €459, making it a lot more accessible than the current model.

It is quite unfortunate to see that Apple has not opted for a cheaper version, to serve the target group of the mini-tablet. I personally would have liked it, let me put it this way.

#4 iPad mini 6: mini Magic Keyboard

The iPad mini 6 doesn’t seem like the ideal workstation at first, but it does have a lot to offer in that area. Given its compact design and powerful specifications, it’s almost a shame not to use the model’s full potential. Especially when you consider how much the average consumer already spends on his smartphone.

In that respect, the support for a smaller Magic Keyboard, and such an accessory, would have been nice. A missed opportunity, if you ask me.

#5 MagSafe (for the accessories)

It is clear that MagSafe is not exactly the most interesting form of charging at the moment. Still, I don’t think support for the technology would be all that bad. Especially not now that the iPad models, almost all, are equipped with USB-C connections.

Due to the lack of the Lightning port, MagSafe is the only time where you can share accessories with devices if you want. I’m not saying that MagSafe is better than USB-C, quite the contrary, but such support (certainly in the future) would have been nice.

iPad mini 6: what’s the difference with the mini 5?

The iPad mini 6 is a joy to use, but I do notice that I occasionally miss the above functionalities. Of course, that doesn’t mean that I’m not happy with this tablet, quite the contrary. In my review I explain in detail what i like about it.
