Jakarta

After having managed to overcome the pandemic, Germany is again experiencing spike in COVID-19 cases reached 50 thousand cases of Corona in a day.

German health authorities reported a new record of 50,196 cases in a day on Thursday (11/11/2021) local time. For the fourth day in a row Germany set a record high addition for daily additional cases.

Despite the continued spike in cases, Germany’s three political parties have decided not to extend the state of emergency which will end on November 25.

Instead, the German parliament is in discussion of new rules to tackle the fourth wave of the coronavirus without implementing lockdown or require COVID-19 vaccination. The government coalition also proposed that existing legislation, such as mandatory masks in indoor public places, be enforced and tightened.

1. The emergency period is not extended.

For information, Germany has imposed a state of emergency since the beginning of the pandemic and will end on November 25. Despite showing an increasing trend of cases, three political parties decided not to extend the emergency period.

Some German politicians think that the state of emergency is no longer necessary because of the Corona vaccinations currently underway in the country and the need to establish a new normal.

2. Reopening free Corona test

German government plans to reopen tes COVID-19 which was previously discontinued to provide incentives to citizens who are willing to be vaccinated against Corona. It is planned that vaccination centers will be reopened and implemented free of charge.

3. Hospital capacity load

This spike in cases, began to burden the capacity of a number of hospitals in Germany. As a result, doctors and health workers were forced to consider postponing the surgery schedule.

4. Had successfully handled the pandemic

Quoted from CNBC, Friday (11/12/2021), Germany had reaped praise for its success in handling the pandemic swiftly. Through an extensive testing program and efficient tracking, as well as high standards of health care, it has been proven to prevent widespread cases of transmission and death.

This success is touted much better than neighboring countries, France and Italy. However, vaccination efforts in Germany have been slow. To date, 69.8 percent of the population has received one COVID-19 vaccination and 67.3 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated.

This percentage is much lower when compared to the UK, where 79.8 percent of the population, over the age of 12, have been fully vaccinated.

5. The spike in Corona cases in European countries

Besides Germany, France also experienced a spike in cases COVID-19. In large part, this is due to the spread of the much more lethal delta variant. In fact, on Wednesday (11/10/2021), the French Minister of Health, Olivier Veran, said France was at the beginning of the fifth wave of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the UK has shown a downward trend in Corona cases. Previously, the country had experienced a rapid spike in cases since late summer. However, there is still a high number of new daily cases, namely 40,000 cases on Wednesday (10/11/2021).
