The figure of Maple Yip stole attention after the screening of the documentary series In The Name Of God: A Holy Betrayal on Netflix. This woman from Hong Kong bravely exposed the heinous acts committed by the leader of the Christian Gospel Mission sect, Jeong Myeong Seok.
Maple Yip became a victim of Jeong Myeong Seok’s brainwashing who called her the Bride of God. He harassed Jeong Myeong Seok several times over the course of three years. Until he became one of the old man’s ‘favorite children’.

1. Incited into the JMS Sect
Maple Yip is a Canadian-born woman who grew up in Hong Kong. One day while walking through the mall with his sister and friend, Maple Yip was approached by several people who claimed to be from university. They are members of the Christian Gospel Mission sect headed by Jeong Myeong Seok.
At that time Maple Yip was still in grade 2 of high school and was experiencing inner turmoil. He yearns for love and affection after being bullied at school. His parents often fought at home.
It turned out that one of the women from the Christian Gospel Mission sect often called Maple Yip. The woman introduced love and life in the Christian Gospel Mission sect. Maple Yip was also incited by Jeong Myeong Seok’s words to crave the kind of love he was talking about.

Christian Gospel Mission sect leader Jeong Myeong Seok was jailed in 2008 for harassing his followers. But they said that Jeong Myeong Seok was treated unfairly. Maple Yip also trusted other followers to think the man was innocent.
During his time in prison, Jeong Myeong Seok asked many of his female followers to take pictures in bikinis including Mpple Yip. The owner’s full name Yip Maple Ying Tung Huen was happy when he was chosen to be his ‘favorite child’.
After Jeong Myeong Seok’s release in 2018, Maple Yip was asked to come to his room. Where Jeong Myeong Seok touched his intimate parts and abused him.
Maple Yip felt confused and talked about it with one of the handlers of the Christian Gospel Mission sect. But they insisted that he had been chosen by God to show his love and should be grateful.
The pattern continued and Maple Yip convinced himself that Jeong Myeong Seok was the Messiah, aka the savior.
