Astana Anyar Polsek in Bandung was targeted suicide bomb. The bomb exploded while staff were holding a morning rally.
The bomb went off at 08.25 WIB, Wednesday (7/12/2022). The offender broke through the line of members holding an apple. The bomb carrying the perpetrator then exploded. The bomb exploded inside the Polsek in front of the entrance area.
Hours later, a second loud explosion was heard. The second explosion occurred at 10:45 AM WIB. Kabid Humas Polda Jabar Kombes Ibrahim Tompo confirmed that the second blast was a disposal of explosive materials. The team detonated the remaining explosives at the scene.
“Indeed, the object suspected of being an explosive was also disposed of by detonating it here,” Ibrahim said at the scene, as reported by detikJabar.
Ibrahim admitted that his group was still verifying the material detonated by agents at the scene. He explained that data regarding the location of the remaining explosives was still limited. They could not explain in detail.
“Cleanliness checks and sterilization are still going on in several areas. Because there shouldn’t be any other objects prone to explosions,” Ibrahim said.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo revealed that the perpetrators were affiliated with the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) network. Here are the facts:
The perpetrator had aimed a weapon
Bandung Police Chief Kombes Aswin Sipayung said that before the bomb exploded, the perpetrator tried to enter the police area by brandishing a sharp weapon. Then the suicide bomber tried to break through the ranks of members who were holding the rally.
“At 08.20 WIB, Astana Anyar Police was holding a call, a man entered the police station brandishing a sharp weapon,” Aswin said quoted by CNN Indonesia on Wednesday (7/12/2022).
“Members dodged and there was an explosion, perpetrator was carrying a bomb. Suicide bombing suspected, perpetrator is dead,” he explained.
He said the suicide bombing terror took place inside the Polsek, opposite the entrance area. As a result of this incident a number of police officers were injured.
“He is now being taken to a hospital in Bandung. The current situation is within 300 meters of the police line,” he said.
A police officer falls
Inspector General Suntana, West Java Police Chief, said 11 people were victims of a suicide bombing at the Astana Anyar police headquarters. One of the victims was a civilian.
“11 people became victims, including 10 police members and one civilian. One police member died on behalf of Aiptu Sofyan,” Suntana said.
A civilian who became the victim was passing by the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, the suicide bomber was confirmed dead at the scene.
