Transport, culture, urban mobility, ecology, commerce… 2022 promises to be auspicious for the Côte d’Azur capital. These inaugurations will begin in March.
1 – The opening of Ikea
The end of the tunnel is finally here! After four years of work, the furniture brand will open its long-awaited department store. May 11 to be precise.
This 35th French store will offer 32,304 m² dedicated to the world of furniture, storage and decoration.
The two car parks with 2,064 spaces will allow customers to park for some shopping.
2 – Iconic delivery
This 20,000 m² complex with ultra-modern architecture should open to the public, in principle, at the very end of 2022.
This vast complex imagined by the architect Daniel Lebeskind, sometimes criticized for its design, will bring together offices, a 5-star Hilton hotel, five restaurants, shops and a 500-seat performance hall.
3 – New performance halls
Iconic will not be the only building to offer access to culture. During this first half of 2022, two new rooms will open in Nice, according to a schedule that we revealed in this article.
That of the Franciscans, in Old Nice, will be accessible from March 15 and will be able to accommodate 400 spectators.
April 25, up to The Kitchen, an ephemeral 600-seat facility installed to the west of the Côte d’Azur capital.
4 – A new face for the city center
On October 20, 2021, Christian Estrosi presented the launch of work on the future “green network”.
Removal of traffic lights, widening of sidewalks, creation of cycle paths, revegetation… The Dante-Buffa- Grimaldi-Liberté axis will be transformed as we explained in this article.
Place Grimaldi will be completed in March 2022. In May, rue Dante will once again be fully accessible, while work on rue de la Liberté will be carried out between April and September 2022.
It will be necessary to wait until 2023 to take full possession of the streets of Buffa and Gioffredo. The axis will be completed in 2025 in front of the future Hôtel des Polices Saint-Roch.
5 – A new Saint-Augustin station
This colossal project, the objectives of which we detailed in this article, will not be fully delivered in 2022. Far from it.
It is only the new Nice Saint-Augustin station that will be accessible from the summer.
More modern than the current building, it will consist of a reusable metal structure, just like the wooden architectural elements or the elevators.
Ultimately, this building will disappear to make room for the future TGV station. But that is not before 2027 and the arrival of the high speed line.
