KOMPAS.com – Keep balance blood sugar is one of the most important things we can do for our overall health.
Because regular blood sugar not only has a positive impact on our energy and mood, but can also help prevent serious chronic diseases and conditions.
According to dietitian Kate Kanner, RD, the constant ups and downs of blood sugar can make it harder for our bodies to efficiently move glucose out of the bloodstream and into the cells that need it for energy.
This is known as insulin resistance.
Over time, if glucose levels in the bloodstream stay high for too long, it can cause damage to blood vessels, nerves, and even organs.
“When blood sugar levels are not maintained, then we are at a higher risk of being exposed diabetes type 2, hormonal imbalance, brain fog, insulin resistance, and energy disturbances,” says dietitian and nutritionist, Elizabeth Arensberg, MS, RD.
“Food plays a major role in balanced blood sugar. The best way to prevent it from becoming unstable is to eat a balanced diet which is to fill half the plate with vegetables and divide the other half into protein, starchy vegetables or whole grains with healthy fats,” he said.
If keep blood sugar within the target range is a top priority for us, here are some eating habit and drinking that experts say we definitely want to avoid.
Check out five eating and drinking habits that can mess with blood sugar, as follows.
1. Eating sugar and carbohydrates is not healthy
According to senior dietitian at the UCLA medical center, Dana Ellis Hunnes, frequent consumption of sweets, refined sugar-laden cereals, or other foods that are primarily made up of sugar and carbohydrates with few nutrients is a big no-no.
