LENGKONG, AYOBANDUNG.WITH–Most people wonder why people who have been vaccinated Covid-19 remain infected with the resulting disease corona virus that.
Many people feel immune after being vaccinated Covid-19. Even after being vaccinated, a person can still be infected Covid-19, even if he is fully vaccinated or has had two doses of the vaccine.
Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Pulmonary Specialists (PDPI) Dr. dr. Agus Dwi Susanto, Sp.P (K), FISR, FAPSR revealed the data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) related to infection Covid-19 after being vaccinated.
“The data show that about 0.7 percent to 0.8 percent of people who have got the vaccine Covid-19 full doses can still become infected Covid-19, “said Dr. Agus some time ago.
Furthermore, Dr. Agus explained the risk of being infected after the vaccine Covid-19 can happen because of the following things:
1. Infected before vaccination
Infected with Covid 19 a few days before the vaccine or the patient is infected, but the virus is still in the incubation period.
2. Multiple vaccine protection
Vaccine protection is not 100 percent, varies for each vaccine. For example, the Pfizer vaccine has protection up to 95 percent, the Moderna vaccine reaches 94.1 percent, AstraZeneca 70.4 percent and Sinovac 65.3 percent.
3. Infected with a new strain
Vaccines cannot establish immunity against all strains. Now corona virus have various strains, so that the developing strain cannot be resisted by certain vaccines.
For example, a strain from South Africa cannot be prevented by the vaccine made by AstraZeneca, but it is still effective using the vaccine made by Pfizer.
4. Viral mutations
Viral mutations, which can cause the vaccine has not been shown to protect against the new variant. As mentioned, the mutations that developed in India are more dangerous than those spread in the European Union.
5. Immunity has not been formed
Immunity that is formed after the vaccine for each person is different. This is influenced by the different body conditions of each person, such as having comorbidities such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, autoimmune and so on.
“So what must be done is to stick to the 5M protocol, namely wearing masks, washing hands diligently, always maintaining distance, always avoiding crowds, and limiting mobility or traveling,” concluded Dr. Agus.
