5 Reason German national team Okezone will talk about the 1-2 defeat against Japan at the 2022 World Cup in this article. Quite a surprising result was seen after the Germany-Japan match in the first match of Group E as Der Panzer fell 1-2 at Khalifa International Stadium on Wednesday (23/11/2022) evening WIB.
Germany actually played well as they managed to take the lead with Ilkay Gundogan’s penalty kick in the 33rd minute. The 1-0 lead lasted until the end of the first half.
However, at the end of the second half Japan managed to come back. Ritsu Doan’s goal in the 75th minute broke Germany’s concentration. Japan scores again in the 83rd minute thanks to action by Takuma Asano.
Germany also lost 1-2 to Japan in that match. So what made Germany lose the team nicknamed the Blue Samurai?
Here are 5 reasons why the German national team lost 1-2 to Japan at the 2022 World Cup:
5. Not having a sharp striker
Kai Havertz is believed to be Germany’s spearhead against Japan. Havertz is in charge of being a shadow forward because Der Panzer lacks a reliable striker.
In Germany, in fact, there is Timo Werner, but the RB Leipzig player did not participate in the 2022 World Cup due to injury. Not having a pure striker makes it difficult for Germany to score goals.
4. Tight Japanese defense
In the first half, Japan played passively, i.e. only defending. They take advantage of counterattacks when they attack.
The dense defense made it difficult for Germany to score late goals. Germany also had difficulty getting into the Japanese penalty area.
