5 Best Places to Watch the 52nd New York Marathon in 2024

Information to remember

The 52nd edition of the New York Marathon takes place on November 3, 2024. It’s an opportunity for thousands of runners to hit the New York tarmac. It is one of the most important races thanks to its reputation but also by the number of runners wishing to participate.

If in 1970 there were only 127 participants, there are now more than 50,000! But we also counted several hundred thousand people on the route!!!

On the occasion of this exceptional event, it is also important for the spectator to “prepare” their race to be placed in strategic locations. You will have a chance to see the runners up close. Because it’s true that it’s nice to see the marathon, but the question that comes next is: “where do I stand to see the NY marathon clearly”? Is it better to start at the beginning, at the end, or in the middle?

So I offer you 5 places to watch the NYC marathon. Of course, you also have other choices over the 42.195 km of the Marathon, but hey, here are 5 really nice and unique major places!!!

1er point: 2 mile – 92nd Street et Gowanus Expressway, Brooklyn

It’s the start of the race! A chance for you to see the impressive mass of all the runners. This popular place will not be the quietest for you but you should not hesitate to jostle a little to find your place… The advantage is that you will have time to move to another place to watch the race a little further before the first ones pass.

2ème point: 8 Mile – Brooklyn Academy of Music, Brooklyn

If you’re not a fan of fighting to get your way, stop by the Brooklyn Academy of Music where you can have a little more peace and quiet. The three waves of marathon runners (split at the beginning to avoid congestion) merge here at the eight mile mark.

3ème point: 14 Mile Vernon Blvd et Jackson Avenue, Queens

After the marathon crosses the Pulaski Bridge, it winds through Long Island City/Hunters Point, this is the halfway point. The route goes up Vernon Boulevard and over the Queensboro Bridge. This residential area offers a viewpoint with fewer bars. So runners are sure to hear your applause.

4ème point: 20 Mile – 138th Street, Bronx

After the descent from Manhattan to the Bronx, a climb awaits runners, aka “the wall”… This is where many lose their minds… Find a place on this hill. With just over 6 miles to go, the uphill content and series of left and right turns back to Fifth Avenue make this the most difficult part of the race for many runners.

5th point: 25 to 26.2 miles south of Central Park, Manhattan

If you have to pick just one place, it’s here, on the home stretch in Central Park. The hills, the last three miles (four laps+) to the finish line are packed with thousands of spectators. The atmosphere is worth the detour and is a spectacle in itself. The race ends with a quarter-mile climb.
