2nd match day in the Regionalliga Südwest: Kickers Offenbach made the failed start on Friday evening in the 5-2 win against TSG Hoffenheim II, albeit with initial difficulties.
Well aimed: Jakob Lemmer (red jersey) scored here to make it 4-1 for Kickers Offenbach.

After the failed start at promoted Wormatia Worms, Kickers Offenbach actually wanted to turn things around for the better against TSG Hoffenheim II. But in front of 6119 spectators at the Bieberer Berg, the OFC got a cold shower after less than 180 seconds: Proschwitz converted a penalty kick. It was particularly annoying for the hosts because captain Zieleniecki actually had the ball under control, suddenly tripped it and then fouled Conté.
Offenbach seemed to brush off this early setback relatively quickly, Knöll had a great chance to make it 1-1 in the 10th minute, but TSG goalkeeper Noll made a strong save. However, Hoffenheim then took command again. That didn’t stop Derflinger from leveling with a low shot from the edge of the box in the 33rd minute. A wake-up call, Knöll even put the Hessians in the lead with a header in added time in the first half. All in all, the lead at the break was flattering.
With an increase in performance at the beginning of the second half, OFC practically earned their lead afterwards, which substitute Bozic extended to 3:1 in the 70th minute. The final minutes were particularly intense again: Lemmer’s shot from a shot made it 4-1 (86′), Asllani headed the 2-4 from TSG’s point of view in the 90th minute before Saric conceded a penalty in the third minute of added time turned into a final score of 5:2.
Will Ulm follow suit?
On Saturday, top favorite SSV Ulm intervened in the action of the 2nd matchday. The first table leader of the 2022/23 season has Bahlinger SC, who were also victorious at the start, as guests. BSC beat VfB Stuttgart II 3-2 a week ago. Thanks were due to one man: Yannick Häringer scored all the goals for his colors in the 3:2. Ulm has been warned, but was able to rely on their own offensive in the 4-0 win in Mainz. In any case, the balance sheet for the past few years is clear. Since the two have faced each other in the Regionalliga Südwest since 2019, Ulm has won five times – four of them without conceding a goal.
On the other hand, the first matchday was anything but successful for TSV Steinbach Haiger, who are among the favorites. He was beaten by a penalty goal at newly promoted SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz. On Saturday, the U23s from 1. FSV Mainz travel to the SIBRE sports center.
Speaking of travel: This week, the climbers are also going on a big trip. On Saturdays, SGV Freiberg makes a guest appearance at TSG Balingen. Above all, SGV trainer Ramon Gehrmann identified one shortcoming in the 1:2 defeat against VfR Aalen: “We clearly dominated the opponent for 65 minutes and had a chance ratio of 14:1.” Still, his team only scored once. Of course, that should change in Balingen. Meanwhile, TSG will have to do without Luca Kölsch (22, midfield) for a longer period of time, who has torn his cruciate ligament for the third time.
The first day of play was more successful for the remaining climbers. As already mentioned, Wormatia Worms and SG Barockstadt won 1-0 against top teams in the league. VfR Wormatia now faces the next hurdle FC-Astoria Walldorf on Saturday, while Fulda-Lehnerz has to deal with VfR Aalen.
SV Eintracht Trier recorded the most successful start of the promoted team, chasing the Astoria from Walldorf out of the Mosel Stadium 3-0 and initially securing second place in the table. However, Trier’s newcomer Gabriel Weiß warns against overestimating the 3-0 win: “It was good, but you shouldn’t overestimate the victory either. It was the first matchday. We have to take it easy and game by game Retrieve performance as a team. Then a lot can still be possible.” The next opponent on Sunday is VfB Stuttgart II, where the SVE must now confirm the performance of the previous week.
In addition, Sunday afternoon still has the two matches between Hessen Kassel and Rot-Weiss Koblenz – both lost their start – as well as FC Homburg and FSV Frankfurt, both of which emerged victorious from the first matchday, in store.
