5.0 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Central Turkey’s Konya Province – Latest Updates and Impact

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake shook the central part of the province of Konya in Turkey today, the Disaster and Accident Management Authority (AFAD) announced.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Selçuklu Districtand the earthquake occurred in 6:08 p.m. (local time) (15:08 GMT), AFAD said.

It happened at a shallow depth of 7.24 km and it is was felt in different areas of the province.

5.4 on the Richter scale shook central Turkey

So far, no injuries or casualties have been reportedbut footage posted online shows how panicked residents flee their homes after the earthquake.

Last week, the southern province of Adana was rocked by a magnitude 5.5 earthquake that was felt in the city center and surrounding neighborhoods and caused panic among citizens who rushed into the streets.

According to preliminary data no serious damage or casualties were recorded.

The earthquake in Konya comes almost six months after the two devastating tremorswhich affected vast areas in the southeastern region of the country and claimed the lives of at least 50,000 people.
