“4th TV4 Athletic Race: A Celebration of Television, Rock, and Movie Characters

Hundreds of runners gathered in León, Mexico to celebrate the 4th TV4 Athletic Race. The race, organized in distances of 5, 7, 10, and 14 kilometers, was a challenge for participants. The event took place in the Arbide neighborhood and marked the 40th anniversary of the state public channel TV4.

Around 800 runners participated in the race, with the majority coming from Leon. People from other municipalities such as Irapuato, San Francisco del Rincón, Celaya, and Guanajuato capital also joined in. Athletes from other entities, including Querétaro, Jalisco, and Mexico City, were also present. Notably, a group of Kenyan long-distance runners participated in the event.

The race started at 7:30 am, and the atmosphere was celebratory. Many participants ran or jogged with balloons tied to their hands, creating a colorful view. The entire race could be followed live thanks to the television and multiplatform broadcast by the local channel.

Along the route, runners wore masks of popular wrestling characters such as Rey Misterio and La Parka. Other notable costumes included “Chucky” and an individual dressed as an Aztec warrior. At the finish line, entertainers dressed as beloved movie characters like Beetlejuice and the Mad Hatter welcomed the participants. The rock band “Tonys” provided the music for the start and finish of the race.

The race aimed to promote physical activation, with the 5 and 7-kilometer distances being recreational, while the 10 and 14-kilometer distances were highly competitive. In the men’s 14k race, Francisco Javier Llamas emerged as the winner with a time of 43 minutes and 22 seconds. Samuel Hernández and Ndege Stepchen from Kenya secured the second and third positions, respectively. Caroline Kiptoo led the women’s 14k race with a time of 51 minutes and 30 seconds, followed by Azucena Rodríguez and Daniela Arellano.

In the men’s 10k race, José Almaguer finished first with a time of 30 minutes and 32 seconds. Miguel Hernández and Gerardo Zárate took the second and third positions. Fátima Torres claimed the top spot in the women’s 10k race with a time of 38 minutes and 2 seconds. Cristina Cruz and Paulina Rodríguez secured the second and third positions, respectively.

The 4th TV4 Athletic Race was a successful event that brought together runners from various regions and celebrated the anniversary of TV4. The race showcased the spirit of competition and recreation, promoting physical fitness and community engagement.
