4th district: Wiedner Hauptstraße – new two-way cycle path and greenery | City vienna

From April 8th, traffic restrictions for private transport

Vienna (OTS) A new two-way cycle path is being built on Wiedner Hauptstraße in the 4th district, in the approximately 1.2 kilometer long section between Karlsplatz and Johann-Strauß-Gasse. Extensive greening and unsealing measures will also be implemented. The starting point for the extensive redesign measures is track work by the Wiener Linien. From Monday, April 8th, there will be traffic restrictions for private transport.

Traffic measures

The construction work will take place in several phases. From Monday, April 8th, the respective construction sections will be closed to vehicle traffic. Access and exit for residents as well as pedestrian traffic will remain constant at all times. The side streets adjacent to the construction phases will temporarily become dead ends.

Detours will be in place in both directions. The diversion towards the city is via Operngasse, Margaretenstrasse and Zentagasse. In the direction of the city center, the route is diverted via Rainergasse and Favoritenstrasse. The construction site can also be bypassed extensively via Wiedner Belt and Prinz-Eugen-Strasse or via Margaretengurtel, Schönbrunner Strasse and Recht Wienzeile.

Replacement measures by the Wiener Linien

During the work on Wiedner Hauptstraße, lines 1, 62 and the Badner Bahn cannot travel between Karlsplatz and Kliebbergasse. The preparatory work by Wiener Linien began on April 2nd.

With the services offered by the Wiener Linien and the Wiener Lokalbahnen, passengers can still travel easily by public transport:

  • Route 59A will operate at a higher frequency and with larger articulated buses.
  • Line 1 runs via Südtiroler Platz/Hauptbahnhof and Prinz-Eugen-Straße.
  • The Badner Bahn runs via Südtiroler Platz/Hauptbahnhof to Quartier Belvedere and line 62 runs from/to Meidling Bahnhof/Dörfelstraße.
  • The U1, U4, U6 and 13A lines are also available as alternatives.
  • For passengers with reduced mobility, the Wiener Linien and the Wiener Lokalbahnen transport services offer their own shuttle service. Contact: +43 (0) 664 884 865 14, pre-order time 15 minutes
